The most horrific aspect of Toxic Crusaders is Toxie's tragic and relatable backstory. Originally known as Melvin Junko, Toxie was a lonely janitor who was constantly being bullied and ridiculed. After a mean-spirited prank resulted in Toxie falling into a drum of toxic waste he transforms into the deformed mutant. While the bullying was played for laughs in the spooky cartoon Toxic Crusaders, the way Toxie was treated was truly horrific and frightening, and the consequences of pollution and toxic waste was chilling.
